Authentication is handled by the SSO application via communication with the individual legacy authentication systems that grant access based on the rights of the user. Logins to CNEX match to a user profile that contains access rights and individual preferences used when interacting with the backend systems, making for a seamless experience for the user.
The SSO initiative has made significant gains over the past year, particularly with successful integration of two key clinical vendor systems, pharmacy and bedside charting. Additional minor systems have been integrated, laying the foundation for the clinical web portal (InfoChart) which is the tailored user interface of CNEX. We anticipate that this will have a notable positive impact on the clinical users. Technical and policy issues still remain with extending the SSO framework to non-clinical users (e.g., researchers), and InfoShare is continuing to work on those issues.
