CNEX has become more robust as the various web services have matured within the enterprise framework. The anticipated completion of production-ready web services is scheduled for the end of 2007 with rollout to end users occurring in the first quarter of 2008.
With the direct involvement of InfoShare, UCLA Health Care has taken steps to expand CNEX to include areas not previously covered like surgical histories and patient schedules. The first use of CNEX will be to provide clinical data to the new enterprise clinical web portal (InfoChart).
CNEX can be readily modified to provide the same clinical data used for patient care to clinical research activities. This is done in a controlled, secure, and audited manner. Providing clinical data for research will be a significant step forward, and combined with other tool sets for managing this data (e.g., Codebook), CNEX will help meet a significant unfulfilled need.
